Junior Golf at Golffoxwood

Junior golf is one of the most rewarding ways to enjoy the game, and we welcome players of all ages and abilities. Whether your child is just starting out or already swinging with confidence, our courses provide a safe, encouraging environment where young golfers can learn and grow.

We typically see juniors ranging from age 6 to 18, though we occasionally welcome keen five‑year‑olds who can follow basic safety instructions. Beginners often start as early as age 7 or 8, when they have the coordination and attention span to enjoy a few holes with guidance. Older teens who are new to golf also find our programmes ideal for building skills at their own pace.

How Beginners Start

For a child who has never held a club, we recommend starting with a short lesson or a group clinic focused on basic grip, stance, and swing. We keep it fun—learning to putt or chip on the practice green is often the first step. After a few sessions, beginners can try a few holes on our shorter course or use the driving range to build confidence.

We provide junior sets of clubs for anyone who doesn’t have their own. Just let us know when you arrive, and we’ll size the equipment to your child’s height and strength. There’s no pressure to play a full round right away. Many juniors start with just three or four holes, then gradually increase as their stamina and interest grow.

Etiquette and Pace Basics

Learning golf etiquette is an important part of becoming a good golfer. We teach juniors to be respectful of others on the course—keeping quiet while someone is swinging, replacing divots, raking bunkers, and repairing ball marks on greens. We also emphasise safety: never swinging a club near another person, and staying aware of groups ahead and behind.

Pace of play is something we focus on from the start. Juniors learn to keep up with the group ahead by being ready to hit when it’s their turn, walking directly to their ball, and limiting practice swings. We encourage a “ready golf” approach: the golfer who is ready to play should go ahead, even if it’s not the farthest from the hole. This keeps the round moving and makes the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Programmes Across the Season

We offer a variety of junior programmes from spring through early autumn. Our weekly clinics run in the evenings or on weekends, covering full swing, short game, and course strategy. Each session is led by experienced instructors who adjust the pace and content to suit the group’s age and skill level.

For juniors who want more structure, we have a multi‑week Junior League that plays on select afternoons. Players are grouped by ability, and the focus is on friendly competition and applying skills learned in clinics. No experience is necessary—we’ll pair beginners with mentors who help them learn the ropes.

A special Junior Pass is available for the entire season, giving juniors unlimited practice facility access and reduced green fees on our courses. We also host a few one‑day events, such as a mini‑tournament and a parent‑child scramble, where families can enjoy the course together.

Throughout the season, we monitor each junior’s progress and offer advice on when to move from the forward tees to longer yardage or from a shortened course to a standard one. Our goal is to keep young golfers engaged, challenged, and excited about the game.
